some current odds on Eleven [Nov. 5th, 2008|11:16 am]
Pick the Eleventh Doctor!

You guys have gone radio silent on me, so I figured I'd post a little something from the OG:

ODDS ON NEW DOCTOR FROM PADDY POWER (3rd Nov 2008) [bold means they've already been involved with the show or spinoffs in some form;  italics are suggestions of ours!]
2/1 David Morrissey*
6/1 Patterson Joseph
8/1 James Nesbitt, Chiwetel Ejiofor
10/1 Russell Tovey, John Simm
12/1 Anthony Head
14/1 Robert Carlyle, David Walliams
16/1 Richard E. Grant*
18/1 Richard Coyle, Aidan Gillen, Alan Davies, Sean Pertwee
20/1 Jason Statham, Harry Lloyd, Nigel Harman, Marc Warren, Jack Davenport
25/1 Julian Walsh, Adrian Lester, Alexander Armstrong
33/1 Julian Rhind-Tutt, Rupert Penry-Jones, James McAvoy
40/1 Bill Nighy, Stephen Fry, Ben Wishaw
50/1 John Barrowman, Ben Miles, David Suchet, Hugh Laurie
66/1 Gary Oldman, Matt Smith, Paul Bettany, Joel Beckett, Christopher Eccleston
80/1 Alex Kingston, Dean Lennox Kelly, Christopher Villiers
100/1 Ricky Gervais
150/1 Hugh Grant, Russell Brand, Vinnie Jones
200/1 Robbie Williams

* there's nothing to suggest that these guys would interfere with continuity...

Thoughts on any of these, guys?

Paterson Joseph is my top choice at the moment, so I'm glad to see him up there. :) I like Chiwetel Ejiofor too, although I've only seen him as the Operative in Serenity. ^^

I can't imagine Alan Davies would do it, considering how much he seems to dislike being called "Jonathan Creek." (I mean, playing the Doctor would get rid of that, but only by replacing it with everyone calling him THE DOCTOR.)

Alexander Armstrong would be super weird because he is already the voice of Mr. Smith on SJA.

Stephen Fry would never do it because it would mean he couldn't do quite so many other things. Also, I hate to say this because I love Stephen, but if I looked like David Tennant and then suddenly looked like Stephen Fry, I would be disappointed. :o

What is Christopher Eccleston doing on this list?? Also John Simm and John Barrowman, wtf? I mean, John Simm would be fantastic, but he's already the Master. And Barrowman 1) is already Captain Jack, 2) would suck, and 3) can only sound American or Scottish AFAIK. O_o

Russell Brand??? Right. O_o Worst idea ever, especially after last week!

In general, I like the suggestions this comm has come up with better!

I like the idea of Chiwetel Ejiofor. The problem I have with Patterson Joseph is the same problem I've had with every other name thrown out of actors who've already been on the series -- there's a continuity issue that irks the daylights of me. Even if they played minor characters like he did, there's still no reason for the Doctor to inexplicably look like that person years after the fact. It strains the credibility so, so much.

I'm going to go ahead and bold the people who've already been on the show, I think...

To be fair, a couple of old school Doctors appeared as minor characters earlier, but I think today's audiences are way smarter than that. I know for a fact that the intelligence of the audience isn't lost on Moffat or anyone working for him.

There's something fun about Mr. Smith having the Doctor's voice, though...

And yeah. *I* have a better shot at it than Russell Brand.

I'm with you -- this comm has been way smarter about it!

...but why does everyone forget David Tennant was one of the characters in the exact same ep as Patterson Joseph was in?
